AI search is creating a new layer in how buyers discover and evaluate companies.
That creates an obvious first question for businesses: Are we showing up?
But the harder question comes next: What does that visibility actually lead to?
Evoke co-founder Devon Vocke recently joined Jason T Wade on the BackTier podcast alongside Tom Gersic, Babak Akhlaghi and Awais Haq for a discussion on AI Search & Visibility, attribution, customer journeys and the changing role of AI in marketing.
Visibility Is Only Part of the Picture
Businesses can increasingly measure whether they appear in platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini, how often they are mentioned, and how that visibility compares with competitors.
Connecting those signals directly to leads, pipeline or revenue is much more difficult.
A buyer may discover a company through an AI response, search for the brand later, visit the website through another channel and eventually convert. In many cases, the original AI interaction will never appear in traditional analytics.
That makes AI visibility useful, but not sufficient on its own.
The Marketing Fundamentals Still Matter
While the platforms are changing, many of the underlying principles have not.
Companies still need credible third-party signals, clear and useful website content, strong search fundamentals and a path that moves prospective customers from discovery to action.
AI search adds another place where those signals matter.
At Evoke, we view AI visibility as part of the broader marketing ecosystem, not a replacement for PR, SEO, content or digital marketing. The goal is to understand where a business is visible today, where meaningful gaps exist, and how those gaps fit into the larger customer journey.
