Jacksonville AI Visibility Report 2026: How Search Wording Changes the AI Results
When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Google for a Jacksonville business, only a portion of the local market makes the answer. We measured that gap across 4,204 businesses in 18 industries.
The local picture
How visible are Jacksonville businesses in AI search?
239 of the 4,204 Jacksonville businesses in our benchmark appeared at least once, a visibility rate of 5.7%. Jacksonville shows how much the wording of a search can matter. The same local market produced different recommendation sets as buyers moved from broad discovery to direct recommendations and specific needs.
A business can be easy to find by name and still be absent when a potential customer asks an AI system for options before they know which companies to consider. If the terminology is new, our guide to AI search optimization, AI SEO, GEO and AEO explains how this type of discovery differs from traditional search.
The industry picture
Which types of Jacksonville businesses appeared most often in AI recommendations?
The answer changed substantially by industry. A useful local contrast is Architecture at 16.2% compared with General Contractors at 1.8%.

Recommendation behavior
Does changing the search question change which Jacksonville businesses AI recommends?
Yes. The recommended set often changed when the buyer changed the wording of the search. For every industry, we tested a broad search for the best local options, a direct request for a recommendation and a more specific need-based search.
Plumbing recommendations were concentrated
The five most-mentioned businesses accounted for 54.2% of the recommendation mentions we observed in Jacksonville plumbing searches.
Dentists recommendations were much more fluid
When the buyer question changed, only 6.8% of the observed business-platform appearances repeated in dentists. By comparison, Staffing & Recruiting was one of the more repeatable categories at 42.1%.
For a business, one successful result does not necessarily translate into consistent discoverability. The more useful question is whether the company appears across multiple buyer needs, search phrasings and AI platforms.
Google AI Overviews
How often did Google show an AI Overview for Jacksonville business searches?
An AI Overview appeared in 59.3% of the 54 Jacksonville Google searches we tested. The likelihood changed considerably depending on how the question was phrased.
Broad “best” search
AI Overview appeared in 7 of 18 searches.
Direct recommendation
AI Overview appeared in 13 of 18 searches.
Specific-need search
AI Overview appeared in 12 of 18 searches.
That matters because a local business cannot appear inside a Google AI Overview when Google does not generate one. For local discovery, visibility depends on both whether the AI feature appears and which businesses make the answer when it does.
What Jacksonville businesses can take from this
Being easy to find by name is not the same as being discoverable before a buyer knows who to search for.
The Jacksonville data points to a practical shift in search. Buyers can now ask an AI system for a shortlist before they ever visit a company website or type a business name into Google.
That makes AI visibility a different kind of discoverability problem. Businesses need clear information about who they are, what they do and where they operate, but they also need credible signals across the wider web that support those claims.
If you want the broader framework behind that work, see our guide to what AI search optimization is and how it differs from traditional SEO. Methodology
How was Jacksonville AI visibility measured?
We tested 18 Jacksonville industries across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. For each industry, we ran three local buyer-style searches: a broad search for the best local options, a direct recommendation request and a more specific need-based search. That produced 12 searches per industry and 216 Jacksonville searches overall.
The benchmark included 4,204 businesses located in the City of Jacksonville that met the study’s industry and operating-status rules. When an AI system recommended a business, we matched it back to that frozen local benchmark. Legitimate local businesses that appeared in AI answers but were not in the starting database were tracked separately rather than added after the fact.
How to read the numbers: this research measures appearance in the tested AI recommendations. It is a measure of discoverability, not a judgment about business quality.

Questions about AI visibility and the Jacksonville research
What does AI visibility mean for a Jacksonville business?
AI visibility describes whether a business appears when people use AI systems to research, compare or ask for local recommendations. It looks beyond whether someone can find the company by name and asks whether the company surfaces before the buyer knows which businesses to consider.
What is AI search optimization?
AI search optimization is the work of improving how clearly and consistently a company is understood by AI systems so it has a better chance of appearing in generated answers, citations and recommendations. Read our AI search optimization guide for a fuller explanation of AI SEO, GEO, AEO and AI visibility.
Which AI platforms were included in the Jacksonville study?
We tested ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Each platform was tested independently using the same three buyer-style search types across the 18 Jacksonville industries.
Why does AI visibility vary so much by industry?
The number of local businesses differs by industry, AI systems return relatively short recommendation lists, and recommendation behavior changes by category and buyer question. In Jacksonville, that produced a wide spread between categories such as architecture at 16.2% and general contractors at 1.8%.
