1. What is the most interesting thing about you or your business?
We absolutely GUARANTEE Business Development results for our clients or we don’t charge them for our services. Our Conquest90 Program promises small business owners improvement for their businesses within 90 days.
2. What makes business ownership worth it to you?
Like my clients, I am unwilling to compromise my personal criteria for performance or my beliefs/ethics just to get a project “done” or to collect a paycheck. I found it impossible to live by these standards in any employment environment.
3. Describe your typical day.
I’m usually up around 6:30 a.m., slam two cups of coffee with an exercise bar and do a workout. I head to the gym for light weight training two to three days each week and hit the treadmill or bike on alternate days.
From Tuesday to Thursday, my work day is typically meeting with clients at their office for their weekly consulting session where we do a combination of preparing business strategy and reviewing the progress of whatever initiatives they are currently working on. This is where we make any adjustments necessary to ensure they are staying on track with their business development plans.
Monday and Friday are reserved for preparing whatever materials, meetings, reports, projects, etc. needed for clients for the upcoming week and for meeting with new potential clients who are seeking out our services to see if we can successfully meet their needs.
Many evening are filled with community/charity events, networking with other business owners, and hopefully a softball game can be squeezed in there somewhere. In addition, there always seems to be some athletic event or practice to attend with Nicole (16) and Stephanie (13). However, my favorite thing to do is watch the day wind down as the kids finish their homework while watching a movie or something with my best friend, Rebeca Rodriguez.
4. Would you ever trade running your own business for a 9 to 5 job?
No. With the possible exception of being called upon for some type of [very] important community or government service….But no, I am not running for President in 2016!
5. What advice would you give to someone considering business ownership or entrepreneurism? Are there certain skills or traits they need to be successful?
- Plan, Plan, Plan
- Budget, Budget, Budget
- Get qualified advice on your plan & budget… BEFORE YOU START!
In his NY Times best seller, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Dr. Stephen Covey’s habit #2 is, “Begin with the End in Mind.” So, here are a few thoughts… The purpose of starting a business is to create an entity that creates a predetermined, desired lifestyle for you and your family. It should be, from day one, designed to be sold someday to provide a continued desired lifestyle for you long after you sell it.
That being said… It’s NOT about you. At its essence, your business should be about:
- Attracting and keeping customers through providing products and services that are more excellent than your competition.
- Providing a good environment, education, and future for your employees.
We believe this is the only road to long-term success in business… and in life.
6. Why do you think you’re successful? What does success mean to you?
I have seen much of the world, owned nice cars, boats and that kind of “stuff.” But that’s not success to me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s better… much better to have money and affluence and those things are high on my list of “must haves”… but success to me is being able to do that without taking advantage or hurting anyone and leaving a legacy of excellence, values and love for everyone who I’ve come in contact with.
